Cannflavin ingredient in Cannabis is 30 times stronger than aspirin

Cannflavin is A hidden ingredient in cannabis is 30 times stronger than aspirin

'Cannflavin', a non-psychoactive substance in the cannabis plant, emerged as a pain reliever and powerful anti-inflammatory as early as the 1980s. Because it exists in a plant with minimal concentration, there has been no way to produce enough of it - to this day.

Two hidden flavonoids in cannabis, Cannflavin A and Cannflavin B, are probably particularly powerful painkillers, even more than cannabinoids in the plant and 30 times Stronger than the common "aspirin" pain reliever.

But what is flavonoids?

The cannabis plant contains 3 main groups of substances: cannabinoids, which are mainly responsible for psychoactive and medicinal effects, terpenes, which are mainly responsible for taste and smell, and flavonoids.

Flavonoids exist in a variety of plants and affect their taste, smell, and pigmentation (color). About 20 different flavonoids have been identified in cannabis, which account for about 10% of all plant-detected substances, but little is known about their effects on the consumer.

In 1985, in a British study published in the journal Biochemical Pharmacology, researchers were able to isolate one of the flavonoids in the cannabis plant called Cannflavin. The researchers found that Cannflavin had strong anti-inflammatory properties and compared
them to those of the anti-inflammatory painkillers that were common at the time.

The researchers found that the anti-inflammatory activity of Cannflavin A is 30 times stronger than the aspirin analgesic.

This was an impressive discovery, but since it exists in the plant with very low concentration substance and there was no way to make it artificially larger, since extensive research on cannabis has been banned until recently, this small study did not lead to the development of any drug.

Now, in a new study, almost 35 years after the previous study, researchers at the University of Guelph in Canada have been able to synthesize Cannflavin A, and another flavonoid called Cannflavin B.

In the new study, which will officially be published next month in the Phytochemistry Journal but is already available online, Prof. Tariq Aktar and Prof. Stephen Rothstein studied the biochemistry and genomics of cannabis to understand how it produces the two special Cannflavin molecules.

Their revelations, for the first time, allow the powerful anti-inflammatory to be produced outside the cannabis plant, thus generating larger quantities of it.

The researchers team is already collaborating with Canadian medical cannabis company Anahit to develop "effective and safe anti-inflammatory drugs" from Cannflavin, but they believe it will take a few more years to produce it in sufficient quantities for mass production.

Both Cannflavin, A and B, are considered to be more powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic than cannabinoids THC and CBD, and the hope is that they will provide a safe, non-addictive alternative to opioid analgesics.
